I am not christain, however, inspired by my Grandma’s extraordinary life, I have begun a project of positive exploration of faith as a non-believer. This work is an initial expression of that ambition, drawn from documentation of my Grandma’s living room as she left it. The medium of cyanotype is particularly important to this work, utilising sunlight to impart an image within a field of Diana’s favourite colour. It holds both the warmth of her character and the richness of her belief in a deep ocean-like blue.
These A5 cyanotypes are made-to-order; however will be limited to 88. One for each year of her life.
What is a Cyanotype?
Cyanotype photography is a historical process where chemicals turn blue when exposed to UV light from the sun and then washed with water. Blueprints get there name from cyanotypes, which were used to make copies of the original architectural plans for construction works between 1870 and 1950.
With love to Diana Hawkins, 10th May 1938 – 11th August 2026.
